Sam and Neftis

Hello there everyone! ^_^

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! Well, here I have my first painting of 2011! I hope you all like it! To be completely honest, I didn't intend to complete this image so soon, as I had another work in progress that I planned on finishing beforehand. But then, I felt inspired with this one so I decided to follow through with that feeling. I posted the sketch of this work soon after Christmas:



As I mentioned then, this is a thank you gift to my dear dear friend, . Aside from being an incredible friend this past year, she was both kind enough and sweet enough to give me a work of her own art as a Christmas gift!



I have to say that I was quite touched by this! I didn't expect it at ALL, and I was even more touched to hear that she did it simply because she wanted to, and for no other reason!

In response, I wanted to give her a gift too, by depicting her original Yu-Gi-Oh characters Neftis (left) and Sam Pegasus (right). Please visit 's own deviantart page to see her amazing artwork and to read up on the histories of these lovely girls! ^_^

In short though, Neftis who I depicted previously, (according to the history that created for this character) was also present during Yami Yugi's/Atemu/Atem's life time; before and after his reign as Pharaoh.



The two had a history together and even a romance. Neftis was also the twin sister of Kisara, in which the Blue Eyes White Dragon originated, hence Neftis's identical appearance.

As for Sam, she is the daughter of Pegasus and his late wife Cecilia/Cyndia. Her fate seems to be intertwined with Neftis during the present day, due to the existence of yet another Millennium item the Millennium Pendant, much like the relationship between Yugi and Yami in the actual series.

So in this image, I decided to depict both Neftis and Sam together. I had a little difficulty with Neftis's portrayal the first time I painted her so I wanted to see if I could improve upon my approach this time. I would like to believe that she came out looking much lovelier this time around. ^_^

This was my first time drawing/painting Sam, however! To aid me in this, I of course used 's work as reference materials, but I also used images of Pegasus's wife Cecilia/Cyndia, given that their daughter is said to resemble her quite a bit.

I wanted to do the same for Sam. I originally wanted to paint her in a blue dress given that blue and white were her standard colors in the outfits of 's own work. However, I feared that she would blend too much with Neftis given how close the two are standing and that she also wore these colors. So instead I went with a more greenish blue or turquoise color, which I believe works well with Sam's blond hair. I did want to include at least some white material within this dress, and to pay tribute to the Millennium pendant that designed, which looks very much like a crescent moon, I decided to add similar crescent shaped ornaments in her dress. This is topped with a matching set of earrings too!

For the background, I was a bit at a loss for what to do, so I decided on more of a blended, decorative array of colors. Since the girls also have a sort of ying and yang type of bond between them, again similar to Yugi and Yami, I thought I'd mix warm colors and cool colors to represent this. However I noticed that it appeared more like a sun set type of image. So to emphasize the more decorative look to it, I then decided to use a bit of white paint for some draw brush markings around the two girls. I thought the designs looked sort of mysterious and even ghostly in a way. I also thought it could represent the magical forces at work between the two of them, once more, like Yugi and Yami.
