------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone!

How are you? Are you doing well?  I sure hope that you are!  Well, what can I say?  I'm FINALLY posting a new deviation, but this one is WAY WAY overdue, as I posted the sketch a few YEARS ago as seen here:

Merman Yami Yugi: King of the Sea Sketch by Yamigirl21and Merman Yami Yugi: King of the Sea Sketch Detail by Yamigirl21

In truth, I'm not too sure what to say about this one! :blushes:  It had been SO long since I started the piece, that I had to go back and read my own comments in terms of my thought process when originally conceiving it.  From the top of my head, I originally came up with the idea when discussing mermaids and such with my good friend :iconeshemilana:  Over the years, we've talked about collaborating in terms of our art one day, which I still hope to do sometime in the future.

I'd depicted mermaids before, as seen here:

Though someday I hope to do a series of paintings, in relation to them.

With this in mind, a few years back, I was looking at a number of tropical fish in some books that I had acquired, and I stumbled across the exotic looking "Firefish" which had colors such as yellow, magenta and purple, depending on the type.  I guess it was those colors that made me think of my beloved Pharaoh Atem or Atemu aka Yami Yugi, as I thought that it would be an interesting challenge to depict him as a merman hybrid with this fish! :w00t:

I suppose it really was that simple.  ^^;  I began the painting shortly after finishing the sketch, though I do recall that the background in particular took QUITE some time, even when starting out!  Soon after, however, I was relocated due to a job assignment, and the stress of such an endeavor more or less KILLED my artistic drive! :(  So I put this piece away, and actually I completely overlooked it for a very VERY long time!  :ashamed:

It was only recently that I found this piece which was about a 1/3 completed.  Since I had already started it, I brushed it off, and decided to finish painting it once and for all! :D  And I'm glad I did!

It's been a while since I'd done a piece for my own sake, and just for fun. :)  I think doing this work was exactly what I needed to rejuvenate myself a little bit....  Though I am still trying to divide up my time between writing my Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction:  Transcending Memories: A Bond Unsealed- Chapter 1
Author’s Note (April 2010):  Wow...  It’s hard to believe that I started this fan-fiction almost 6 years ago.  So much time has passed, and yet at the same time it feels as if it were only yesterday since I created this work.  Even though I put it away for a while, as I focused on other things in my life, my love for this story never faltered.  And I’m quite sure that it will always be special to me, no matter what...
In recent months, I found myself rediscovering the intensity of the love that I felt for the Yu-Gi-Oh anime and manga series, and as a result I was compelled to revisit this fan-fiction, rework it, and maybe even attempt to complete it this time around!  It’ll be a daunting task, especially given the extent of what I would like to rewrite before I continue onward, and because despite everything that I had written previously, I had barely even begun
, preparing new works for the upcoming anime convention, Anime USA (in which my husband :iconpyropainter: and I will be attending animeusa.org/) and completely some other forgotten works that I have piling up, I want to try to keep up my creative energy in any way I can! :phew:

As always, this piece was hand painted, using opague water color paints and brushes! :)  Thanks for looking everyone, and please let me know what you think!  I always *always* appreciate feedback!  And please know how even to this day, I greatly appreciate all the support and encouragement that I receive! I never ever want to take that for granted!  Take good care now everyone, and I hope to be back very soon with even more new works to present!  Until next time! :blowkiss:

Love,
