Wow! My GOODNESS has it been a long time! I simply must apologize for that! Truly! All I can say is that it has been one whirlwind of a year so far, mostly on a personal level! But alas, it made a very BIG impact on my creativity; and not in a good way.
I've written about it in more detail in the last few journal entries that I posted, if anyone is interested, but in a nutshell, it mainly involved changing of jobs, which resulted in an unusually HIGH level of stress, worry and fatigue! However, I would like to think that things are *finally* beginning to stabilize, and with it, my desire to do more art and writing, I hope!
For my first painting in MANY MONTHS, I thought that I'd start with one I knew I'd enjoy; an illustration from my "Yu-Gi-Oh" fan-fiction Transcending Memories: A Bond Unsealed:
Transcending Memories: A Bond Unsealed- Chapter 1
A Yu-Gi-Oh Fan-fiction
Author’s Note (April 2010): Wow... It’s hard to believe that I started this fan-fiction almost 6 years ago. So much time has passed, and yet at the same time it feels as if it were only yesterday since I created this work. Even though I put it away for a while, as I focused on other things in my life, my love for this story never faltered. And I’m quite sure that it will always be special to me, no matter what...
In recent months, I found myself rediscovering the intensity of the love that I felt for the Yu-Gi-Oh anime and manga series, and as a result I was compelled to revisit this fan-fiction, rework it, and maybe even attempt to complete it this time around! It’ll be a daunting task, especially given the extent of what I would like to rewrite before I continue
Truth be told, this drawing is QUITE a few years old now as seen by the original pencil drawing seen here! And yet, it was only that I loved dearly, even then! I always felt that this worked deserved to be painted properly and fully, and to start my creative juices, I thought now was the time!
It's actually one of the lighter scenes from what has become a rather dark story, which took place in Chapter 3:
Transcending Memories: A Bond Unsealed- Chapter 3
A Yu-Gi-Oh Fan-fiction
Author’s Note (April 2010): Ah, what fun I had revising this chapter! I suppose that I can say that Chapter 3 is where the story truly begins, and as a result, it was reworked considerably in comparison to the original. Firstly, I attempted to add more insight to both Yami and Teana’s characters, and aside from detail and description, I found several grammatical errors in the previous version which I hope have been corrected in this one. In addition, given that this chapter was generally lighter, as opposed to the story’s overall darker tone that had begun to unravel; I simply decided to follow through with the various events that transpired here, while also trying to amplify them in any way possible. Though what originally happens within the chapter remains intact, I like to believe that there is a bit more life, or perhaps
Heh, whenever I think of that, I always remembered the lyrics from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast:"
"Here's where she meets prince charming! But she won't discover that it's him, till chapter 3:
And since I mentioned it in the sketch of this work as well, here are a few passages that describe the scene depicted above:
Beginning to brush herself off, Teana saw that was completely covered with grass, leaves and other types foliage; presumably lingering in the vase before they had leaped inside of it. Feeling the intensity of the man’s stare, she then paused to meet it.
And then, as if some ghostly bandit had robbed Teana of her thoughts, words, or even the sheer force of her rage, she now felt everything inside her coming to a screeching halt; dissolving away as she watched the man slowly unhood himself!
Comparable, perhaps, to being struck by a bolt of lightening, the shock and disbelief that washed over her had completely desensitized her body! She gawked wordlessly, as he casually massaged his neck and shoulders, before turning to give her a now self-confident grin!
Despite the fact that he had been wearing a hood, Teana couldn’t help but wonder how she didn’t know who the man was; that the thought hadn’t entered her mind at all! Why? Why didn’t she know? As the reality of this strange encounter permeated into the deepest recesses of her mind, she still found herself unable to move; vaguely aware that the color had likely drained from her face by now!
“Um...” Teana said at last, as her voice cracked. “Will you excuse me for a moment, please?”
Barely able to manage a leveled tone, the only distance that she could muster was to turn herself completely around.
*I just yelled at the prince...* Teana thought, with fleeting detachment. *I just yelled at the prince!? What’s wrong with me?! Am I insane!? Oh gods! What should I do!? What can I possibly say to him!? This is a nightmare, right?! It has to be! This just isn’t happening! Not like this! Not like this...*
As she continued to chastise herself, Teana could do nothing but shamefully place her face in her hands; wishing, praying, that she could just disappear in a puff of smoke! She then wondered if she should return to hiding inside the vase, instead! As she considered even that course of action, she felt the stirring desire to either laugh at the ridiculousness of this fateful meeting, or to cry miserably! Entertaining the notion of what the prince must thinking, she found herself genuinely leaning towards the latter!
Anyhow, I certainly took a lot of time and effort painting this work, as I really do hope that it ignites the artistic passion that I once had! And if I'm honest, I also hope that it might prompt some interest in my written works, which I've also devoted much time, and effort into. It has been an ongoing project, one that's spanned many many years now. Oddly enough, it started off as a simple love story, between Yami AKA Atem, during his own life time in Ancient Egypt, with a previous incarnation of Tea aka Anzu, named Teana. It was originally inspired by episode 52 of the anime, where the real Tea/Anzu dreamed of being in Egypt, and of course the "Yu-Gi-Oh: Forbidden Memories" video game for the Playstation.
As I've mentioned time and time again, I took that Teana and re-envisoned her as my own, in terms of design and backstory. She is also significantly different in personality from the real Anzu/Tea due to her upbringing, which of course is addressed further in the story.
The story as a whole went through re-write after re-write and is FAR from being completed even after 11 chapters and over 100+ pages! But it is one that I wish to tell, perhaps in order to satisfy what I would have liked to have seen in the series itself. Even aside from romance, I simply wanted to know what the real Yami/Atem was like when he lived in that time frame. Furthermore, there were also SO many aspects only touched upon in the Dawn of the Duel, aka Millennium World arc that I would have LOVED to have seen explored further. I wondered just HOW differently the true events that took place in Ancient Egypt the first time differed to Yami/Atem's memories, as seen in that story in his World of Memory.
I must admit that I began this story even BEFORE that particular story ended in the manga all those years ago, resulting in even its beginning differing quite a bit from what actually transpired in either the manga or anime. But I decided to work around that, and again, perhaps things were different the first time! I wanted to try to find out in my work, while getting a real glimpse of Yami/Atem's inner workings in his young life!
Another aim of the story was to see what led to Yami/Atem sacrificing himself in order to seal Zorc away. This was briefly touched upon of course; that he did so in order to save his people, his land and perhaps even the entire world! But I also couldn't help but wonder if there was more of a personal stake involved, one that effected both himself and those closest to him....
I guess that's all I can say without giving anything away, in anyone wishes to read it, but I always welcome feedback, as this story means everything to me. Maybe it sounds silly having poured so much into it, and for so long even! But I suppose this is one of those personal achievements that I want to say I was able to accomplish one day; even if it is only for myself....
Thank you for looking everyone! I hope to be able to catch up on messages and deviations very very soon! And I hope to post even more work as quickly as I possibly can! Until next time then! Please know that I appreciate your kindness, patience, and all of your incredible support! Always!
Lots of Love,
P.S. Aside from this piece, I have done a few other illustrations of sorts for my story in the past such as this one: Please feel free to visit my gallery for others!
And most recently, the sweet and wonderfully talented also illustrated a scene from my work:
It is a prominent one, that depicts an ominous scene in my chapter 8:

A Yu-Gi-Oh Fan-fiction
Author’s Note (April 2015): Greetings once more everyone! I'm so happy to see you here again, and relatively soon after my last few installments of this work! Even now, I'm sure it's still pretty shocking for me to be working so consistently on this treasured work of mine, isn't it? At least, that's how I feel myself! But what can I say? Even if it has been several years, when I set out to do something, I really do try to complete it, no matter how long it may take... And this story means far too much to me to simply disregard it in the state that it is. I really don't know how long it will take me to complete it, but I hope to, one day..... Though if I have a say in the matter, it will be done sooner rather than later....
Well now! I certainly revealed quite a few of my plot elements in my last chapter, didn't I? If you can believe it, many of those concepts have been with me ever since I ha
And your coloring is so beautifuuuuuuuuul *C*
This was such an amusing scene, the thought of them jammed inside of a vase always brought a giddy smile to my face. Also the fact that Teana was the only one who had flowers in her hair (which has been drawn perfectly) and is so flustered compared to Atem being clean of flowers and so relaxed made it even more sweet for a first meeting.
You've certainly come a long way since you first wrote that scene, and it makes me happy to see that you will revisit that original writing in your artwork I'm also glad to hear that things are starting to settle in your personal life. I know it's been a bit stressful lately, but it would be great if things were calm now for a long while.
It definitely seems like a good piece to help inspire you again after everything that's happened this year. When you started posting WIPs of this on your Patreon I was glad to see that you've finally found the time to work on your art again, knowing how hard things have been lately. You deserve the time to work on what you love. And I do hope this piece encourages others to read Transcending Memories as well, given that you've put so much work into the story and your love for it shines through. The scene pictured above is definitely one of the cutest parts so far, though poor Teana isn't having a great day. Like I said over on Patreon, the colouring for all of this is amazing, but I especially like how you've done the flower in Teana's hair, as well as the background.
Also, haha, now I've got that song from Beauty and the Beast stuck in my head. xD
And congrats on coming back with this, it's fantastic to have you back
I think the faces and hair look exceptional! I think you really captured some awesome emotion in each of their faces Teana looks really pretty and adorable in her flustered state which Yami seems to agree with xD I really like all of the detail, the flecks of light off of her lashes and lips. If I had to chose something I think you could work on next time, it would be folds. I'm not quite sure of the material of his cloak, but some of the folds don't quite make sense regarding what's beneath it. Also, maybe go a shade darker with some of the shadows. I think you had a good start with light source, but I think putting in some darker tones could help it pop a bit more. Still, a really awesome job, certainly a new favorite of mine I look forward to see more illustrations, whether they're from your story or whatever you fancy at the time
