Meeting Eric Stuart

I actually just got back a little while ago from attending J-1 Con, a relatively new anime convention in Philadelphia!

I'm ashamed to say that I wasn't aware of this event at all, especially since I live outside of the Philadelphia area, and that it even began when I actually lived within the city!    But nonetheless, I discovered the event on Facebook, that it was occurring this very weekend, and that Eric Stuart himself, the voice of Seto Kaiba among other characters would be in attendance! 

I was pretty excited over this! Though I've been fortunate enough to meet several of the other Yu-Gi-Oh voice actors, I had never met Eric Stuart.




So despite the short notice, I woke up bright and early this Sunday, the 18th and went on down!  The event was a small one, though a fun intimate con that I hear is growing every year! I definitely enjoyed myself, and I feel very lucky to have met with Eric; even having a chance to talk to him a bit!   He mentioned that they had just finished recording for the "Yu-Gi-Oh: Dark Side of Dimensions movie, how he felt the movie will be well received by fans, and that it was darker and more mature than anything done before.  He mentioned how he felt that all the characters were older and portrayed more maturely in this film, and that it should be in theaters in the US in early 2017.

Eric was very pleasant and kind, and I presented him with a book of my prints as a gift!  I mainly focused on images that portray Kaiba, such as the ones below, but I gave him several other Yu-Gi-Oh related works that I thought he might like too!



I mentioned to him that I had been a fan o his since the 1990s, when he played characters such as Gourry in Slayers or of course Brock and James in Pokemon.  He seemed very open, and appreciative of the attention and even seemed touched that I had brought a gift for him.  He offered to hug me in the picture without me having to ask, which I must say was super cool!   I asked if he'd return to events like this one and if he could express to the other voice actors that more fans would love to meet them as well!  He sounded positive about that, particularly events in New York City where he stated many of them reside! 

Anyways, it was definitely a great moment, and Eric really was awesome!  It was TOTALLY worth taking a leap of faith and going today, as I like to think that I stumbled onto the news of this convention just for this moment! Who knows?  Maybe I'll even vend at this con next year!  It'll be hard to top this year though!  But you never know!  Thanks for looking everyone, take care, and if you haven't already, be sure to visit Eric's own website at: www.ericstuart.com/
