Korra for Collaboration with Pyro Painter

Hello everyone!

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! It's been a little while, hasn't it?  Well, it's been a while since I posted a fully colored deviation at least.   Though, to be fair, given that this image will be part of a collaboration, I suppose I can't call it a completed image.  But even so, taking into account that even I don't know how this image will look like when it is finished, I thought that I'd post my contribution and patiently wait for the final result!

Before I get into describing this work, I wanted to thank everyone once more for all the kind words that were written in regards to the personal tragedy in my life, namely the loss of my beloved kitty Videl.  I may have mentioned this already, but I felt it important to mention it once again.  I am doing much better, though of course, I miss my angel so so much..... With the support of family, friends, my wonderful boyfriend , in addition to all of your support here, it made things a little bit easier, and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart!

Speaking of I suppose that does indeed lead us to the piece at hand.  Though I mentioned some of this in the description of the sketch of this work as seen here,



beginning last summer, I had introduced to the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which eventually lead to an interest in the follow up series The Legend of Korra. 

With the upcoming anime convention Otakon that I will be attending this summer, I wanted to focus heavily on a new set of works that I will be displaying and selling there, and one piece that I had wanted to try was to depict Korra; with the help of of course!

Given that he specializes in creating fire based works as seen in his own deviantart page, (as well as his own personal website and Facebook page:  www.scorchedsouls.com/ and www.facebook.com/pages/Art-of-…; we thought it might be interesting to see how my traditional art work, done with water color paints, would fit together with his digital painting skills.  We agreed that I would be the one to depict Korra herself, and that he would render a background of some sort, and have her bending fire or possibly water as well.  As I mentioned previously, I'm not sure what he has in mind exactly, but I'm definitely anxious to know!

Though I, myself have depicted Avatar related works before, as seen below,


 

I had never depicted Korra or any of the characters within her world.  Truth be told, I was a little nervous about it, but then I usually am when rendering a character I had never done in the past.  But then, on the other hand, I think I was less nervous than in the past, as I truly was looking forward to working with and seeing what we could accomplish together! 

As for the image itself, I suppose there isn't too much to say, that I hadn't already said in the description of the sketch.  I wanted to illustrate Korra a bit more maturely, as I normally do, but also more serene and calm.  I will admit that at times I was a bit frustrated with some of her rash behavior, in both seasons 1 and 2 of the series.  I enjoyed her character much more when she was more level headed; seeking to reach deep within her to explore her spiritual side.  When choosing a pose for this image, I looked at various yoga poses, and found one that I liked, that depicted this, but at the same time, could also be a stance, when summoning the elements; albeit in calm and strategic way!
