Korra: A Collaboration with Pyro Painter

Hello everyone,

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are!   Well, here it is! It may have taken some time, both for me and for my boyfriend, but we both managed to finish our very first artistic collaboration, featuring Korra, from the acclaimed animated series of the same name, "The Legend of Korra." 

I spoke of this collaboration both when I completed the sketch of this work, as well as the painted figure as seen here:


As I mentioned then, among other things that and I have in common, one is our love of both the art making process, and animation as whole!   About a year ago actually, I managed to introduce him to the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" animated series, which he had heard of, but had not seen. 

Though it took a little persuasion on my part, he eventually became a fan himself, and managed to watch the entire series partly on his own and with me!   And not long afterwards, began watching, "The Legend of Korra," too!  Though we both agree that we enjoyed "Avatar: The Last Airbender," more, we have kept up with Korra also, and we look forward to what develops in this new season, Book 3: Change!

Though this was not my first time depicting Avatar related artwork, as seen here:  , I must admit that I was a little nervous approaching this collboration.... One because it was the first time depicting Korra, herself, but also because I was a bit nervous to work with my boyfriend too....

Getting back to the image itself, we discussed it's concept before either of us began work on the image. had remarked that he liked how I rendered figures from various animated series, and he, in turn, is a master at depicting fire, his trademark, which in fact, has brought him worldwide acclaim!!!

To see more of his work, you can visit his own Deviantart page, or even better, his personal website:  www.scorchedsouls.com/ as well as his own personal Facebook page, featuring his work: www.facebook.com/pages/Art-of-…; As you can see, truly has found true success in the arts, as he continues to better himself and looking for more and more opportunities to showcase his work; hence one of the reasons, I wondered if my skills could even compare!   At the same time, however, I was also quite flattered that he even wanted to work with me, and so I jumped at the opportunity!

Anyhow, in the end, we decided that I would do my very best to depict the character of Korra, and that he would render the background and most importantly, the visual effects of her firebending.  Ever since he had witnessed dragons appear in the Avatar world, in the original series, he thought it would be a nice challenge to attempt a sort of fire dragon that Korra is able to call forth with her bending abilities.

And thus, he painstakingly illustrated the fire all around her, appearing in this form, while also having the light of the fire illuminating her.  Furthermore, being a fan of martial arts, and all things Asian, as well, he thought it would be interesting to depict an Asian inspired gate behind Korra, as well as otherworldly lights escaping those doors, which could be interpretted in any number of ways.  Perhaps it is yet another opening to the Spirit World?  Or maybe it is symbolic for her connection to the Light spirit Raava?  Whatever it may be, I like to think that everything comes together in this work; both my style, as well as 's to create a truly unique work of art.  I hope that you all approve, as well, and as always I truly thank you for looking, everyone, as your support of both of us, means a lot to me!  Take care now, all of you, and until next time then!
