Commission for TheSilentChloey: Marik and Yuganna

Hello everyone,

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! I'm hanging in there myself.... Fighting off a little bit of a cold bug at the moment, and I'm still dealing with a number of life issues that occured this year that have not been pleasant.... But anyhow, I'm finally posting my latest commission work, asked of me by the wonderfully kind and encouraging :iconTheSilent Chloey:. She had asked me for a commission work earlier this year, when she requested that I depict her Yu-Gi-Oh inspired original character Yamara, as seen here: . Claiming that she was quite happy with my depiction, she then asked that I render another of her original characters, this time along with the canon Yu-Gi-Oh character Marik Ishtar.

She described her original character, Yuganna Desher, as being a dragon hybrid who has the capability of becoming a true majestic dragon. provided me with reference material such as these and we also discussed how her features would relate to canon Yu-Gi-Oh characters as well. When designing her, I admit to using images of the Dark Magician Girl, and even Jaden Yuki to help me finalize my take on the character.

In addition, specifically mentioned details such as the fact that Yuganna's wings could span up to 13 meters long; so I decided to research the look and flexibility of bat wings to help me along with the piece. Furthermore, I thought that the wings could be telling of Yuganna's feelings on the matter too; that despite being slightly aggravated by Marik's overprotectiveness, she is still touched on some level, as seen by the wing on the left about to pat Marik's shoulders in reassurance. I also thought that by having her wings outspread, that it could also demonstrate to Marik that all is well, as seen by the lack of pain that she experiences in doing so. also gave me the option of depicting Yuganna in either full armor, or a simplier training outfit, and in the end, I chose the latter. Given that this was supposed to be a tender scene between Marik and Yuganna, I thought having her in more casual wear would be a bit more fitting in this case.

As for the scene itself, had mentioned how much Marik truly cares for Yuganna and she wanted me to convey that by depicting Marik appearing concerned, due to an injury on Yuganna's wing. However, Yuganna's race has the capability of healing quite rapidly, so wanted me to depict Yuganna appearing a bit exasperated that Marik is making such a fuss when the wound will heal before it can be tended too. had wanted Marik to look a bit flustered and worried, but nothing TOO comedic..... I tried to go for a more serious approach, and yet due to his fumbling, Marik had managed to get himself tangled in the bandages that he was about to apply!

I must say that I had a great deal of fun with this image! It had a more illustrative feel to it, as seen by the expressions and poses, and I actually quite enjoyed depicting the details, such as the wings! Also, had asked that I put Marik in a more casual outfit as well; namely a white shirt and jeans that he seems to sport in a doujinshi image that she provided me with!
